WHAT IS THE VA 250 CAR PROJECT

VA 250 Car Project is a national motorsports and engineering initiative created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

Built in Virginia and backed by historic commissions, our project brings together American engineering, racing heritage, and storytelling to attempt a land-speed record on one of the most historic runways in the world.  View our car’s technical specs HERE.

Why This Moment Matters

The 250th anniversary of the United States—America’s Semiquincentennial in 2026—matters because it is one of those rare moments when an entire nation can pause and look both backward and forward at the same time. It is not just a birthday; it is a milestone of reflection, responsibility, and renewal.
  • America 250

Celebrating innovation, independence, and American ingenuity.

  • Engineering Excellence

A purpose-built machine designed for speed, stability, and record-breaking performance.

  • Historic Ground

The run will take place at the same site where Apollo 11 launched mankind toward the Moon.

The Arrington Legacy

Speed runs in the family.  Joey Arrington, son of former NASCAR driver Buddy Arrington, is himself an American former NASCAR driver, team owner, and crew chief from Rocky Mount, Virginia. He made nine Winston Cup Series starts with a best finish of twelfth. He made his first start in 1974 as a seventeen-year-old and raced until 1980.

Joey is the designer/developer of the car/engine for the VA250 Car Project.
