The VA250 Car Project is a Virginia-based motorsports and engineering initiative created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

The project began with a bold goal: build a Virginia-made stock car capable of breaking the stock car land speed record and use that mission to celebrate American ingenuity, engineering excellence, racing heritage, and the spirit of innovation.

On March 23, 2026, that goal was achieved. Built in Martinsville, Virginia by Joey Arrington and driven by Tommy Hurley, the VA250 car reached 253 MPH at the Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility, breaking the previous stock car land speed record.

Today, the project continues as a national storytelling platform. Through the 253 MPH: Speed Meets Heat Tour, the VA250 car will travel across the country to connect communities with the story of the record, the engineering behind the car, the Virginia legacy that made it possible, and the hope-filled story behind Danny’s Wall of Hope.

This is not simply a race car.
